Bugreports and feature requests go here
  • I'd like to keep this discussion board as minimalist as possible without limiting possibilities for effective communication and fun. But feel free to disagree and discuss features you need introduced.
Let's make this place better. I'm all ears.
  • Good thing you have going here! A central hub for pony related audiobooks is quite in need and I agree with your notion of keeping things as sleek as possible.

I was thinking that maybe we'd need a category for publishing and commenting works, but then again that's a thing that's already available on the main portal. Something that would be very useful, though, would be a "Technical" category, for equipment, editing and possibly voice acting tips.

And maybe it's me but is there a link to the forum on the homepage? Cause I can't quite find one.

Forum needs a bit polishing before going public, I think. Equestrian Narrator is deciding on the categories and stuff with his fellow audiobook-people.

But yeah, you're right, I don't think it's too bad of a thing to put a link there that early.

  • Would it be possible to have our uploads show somehow on our forum profiles?
  • Indeed! This coming week I shall be working on the site as far as subforums etc...I work weekends, and 12 hour shifts, so no time at the moment but it's on my list for Monday.

I'll look for an easy way to do that, but probably won't find it. -_- So no high hopes.
Maybe there's an option|plugin to add user-descrtiption text to the profile. Will that do?

Guess it'll have to. I figured it would have probably meant a lot of fiddling with the user database otherwise.

On an unrelated note, as you can see quotes don't seem to be working properly for me :/
(or maybe you can't see? I dunno, have a screenshot for clarity's sake:

Fixed css a little, try CTRL + F5. Should be better.

That's better indeed, but shouldn't there be a "Madmint Baker said:" at the top?

There should be, but forum does not handle nested quotes very well in that sense. -_-
  • Well, if you can't fix it maybe you could disable nested quotes altogether. Might be a healthy choice anyways.
  • Sorry for the delay getting things going here. For the second time in a month we've had one of our Siberian Huskies in for major emergency surgery so I've not really been in much of a position to work on anything this week as I had hoped :/
  • Cool site, I'm liking it so far. I gotta say, though, that fic authors should really be listed somewhere.

But they are. Though not very obvious. Just below categories and characters there's a list "Filter by author:"
Oh, or do you mean the writers? It's up to the uploader to put that in the description. Though I think I should run through all the fics and add links to the authors that people (including me) forgot to add.
  • Just a note that, after two weeks at the Vet school...a week in ICU and a week in Intermediate care, our Husky is finally coming home today. Was sure we were going to loose her there for a while but she pulled through. SO, things should be getting back on track.
  • Funny thing that I found this. As a programmer, I considered a very similar idea a few months back, as a hub for MLP audiobook uploads and collaboration tools. I was too busy with other obligations to bother working on something like that, but I'm glad to see someone did.

As a suggestion, linking forum accounts to the site accounts, for controlling uploads and such.

Also, upload management is still in Russian, even though it says English?

And finally, maybe a gridded layout for displaying the audiobook listings? (vertical just seems too long).

Awesome job though =) Is the back-end custom, or what are you guys using?
  • Good question!  The forums are called "Vanilla" but not sure what the main site runs.  I know Mamint is pretty minimalist, reflected in the overall site.
  • Yeah, I've tried out Vanilla before. Good for being open and free, and makes it easy to integrate. If he's minimalist, I'll bet the site front is a custom setup then. It's nice and pretty underneath hehe.
  • Is there a way to preview posts before publishing? Also, it would be very handy if HTML or BB formatting could be directly interpreted by the post prompt because, <i>as you can se</i>, [i]it doesn't[/i]. I don't quite like having to use the mouse every time I want formatting...
  • I'll have a look.  There's a lot of features not currently turned on.  Vanilla has a  LOT of plugins you can get as well, but MadMint has to install those.
  • Doesn't seem to be a built in way to enable bbcode etc., will need to ask MadMint about it.  He's a bit of a minimalist about the site, but I don't think he'll mind adding a few more features to make the forum more user friendly.
  • Would it be possible to allow uploaders to embed videos from youtube rather than uploading mp3 files?  I have several multiple-chapter fics on my channel but I havn't hung on to the mp3 files and I think some people might prefer to embed from youtube because it might get their channels some more attention.  If not embedding than maybe let them put a link for each chapter.
  • I think this is already possible by using the embed code..lets test....

Nope!   I'll add this to the feature request.  I'll be talking with Madmint about what other options we want.  Vanilla has a lot of plugins that are easy to install.
Good idea though.  However, if you want MP3s of your work you can use J-Downloader to rip the Audio to MP3.
  • Yo! This place needs a search function. I know there's category filters but a search would also do good. Among other reasons, I want to make sure I'm not uploading a fic someone else has already done.

I hear you. The only options for youtubers now are "Source" field and adding link to a channel to the description. Right now we're working on matters of stability. But I'll add this to our "ToDo someday" list.

Try onpage search in your browser. All fics are displayed on a single page so it shouldn't be hard if you search by title.
  • I'm trying to upload a fic and once an mp3 file (20MB) would finish, I would get an unknown error message and the download  would say complete and then fade and start uploading the next mp3 file (I tried this also with only uploading a single file).  When I hit send after all required fields have been filled out, nothing happens except the page scrolls slightly, but to nowhere in particular it seems.  No new page opens up and nothing happens to tell me the story has been uploaded, which I don't believe it has since it does not show up when I search for the newest fics.  If there is any help to be offered I would be grateful.
  • I've had a very similar issue with my uploads. what with uploading, filling out the fields, hitting send, and nothing happening. Oddly enough, after letting it sit for a bit, it works when I click cancel.
  • Oh. DeepReader313, DeftFunk. I'll look into it.
  • Audiobooks should have an "Incomplete" option, for those still in progress.
  • I suppose I should say it might have something to do with my Browser, Opera. It's like outdated and stuff.

I've yet to test it with other browsers. That's kinda why I didn't mention it earlier.

  • I'm on Chrome but it could still be a browser issue  but idk
  • Okay, Mr. Baker. I got a problem.

When I click the send button when I'm uploading stuff, all I get is that loady symbol thingy an no indication that it's actually working. In fact, trying to filter or sort the list of readings also gives me that loady symbol thingy and nothing else. I tried them in both Opera and Internet Explorer and got the same problem. I realized that I did not always have this problem. Something changed for the worse, it seems. Maybe the issue is the loady symbol itself? Surely I'm not the only one having this problem.

Switching between compact view and expanded view still works fine.

Also, this site came up as the subject of conversation in a Skype chat I was in. A few notable gripes came from that.

For one, you told me earlier using an in-browser search function for finding specific readings should be sufficient, and it is, but the simple fact remains that not many people like to Ctrl+F. I don't know why it is, but it is what it is. So a search or filter by name I think would help greatly. Also a sort by name as well. Those couldn't be that hard to program, could they?

One more thing that came up in that chat (that I forgot to capture) is that people don't know how to update an already uploaded reading with more chapters and I realize that I don't either. I can take a few educated guesses, but my point is, I think that that should be something that is explicitly stated in the upload form.

I would also like a way to credit multiple readers on a reading in a way that that those readings still come up when searched individually. Like tags on many sites are separated by a comma or something. This is a low-priority thing, of course but I figured I throw that in there.

When you upload a new reading you should receive an email with a link that allows you to edit it. It is a bit weird, but it works.
  • As I thought, but my point was, I feel that it is something that should be explicitly stated. Like so:

"We'll send you a special link so you can manage your story and upload new chapters at any time."

  • Yeah, it's kind of a hinky way of doing it.  I think it's a limitation of the back end software...would more typically expect a login to manage your uploads and such.
  • Uploaded a new chapter today and reordered it, and when it submitted some of the chapters went a bit wonky. Several of them don't list times (and thus the overall time says it's less than it actually is), and when I attempt to update it it says the names on those chapters are invalid (but they are the same as they've always been, and changing them does nothing to fix it).

The audiobook in question is "The End of Ponies".
  • Prismic, ping MadMint about that. He runs that side of the site.
